A dual citizen of Canada and the United States, Dr. Earle F. Zeigler retired from Western University in 1989. By 2015, however, he had completed 75 years of service to the fields of physical activity education and educational sport. His first article appeared in 1948, and by 2015 Zeigler had published all together 57 books and monographs and 445 articles in five sub-disciplinary and sub-professional areas within the field: philosophy, history, management theory and practice, comparative and international aspects, and professional preparation.

He was the only person elected as a charter member by both the U.S.A. and Canada in the North American Society for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport, and Dance Professionals in 2000/2001. After receiving the highest recognition (the Honour Award) of the Canadian Assoc. for HPERD in 1975, Zeigler subsequently received the top three awards in his field from the U.S.A., (Hetherington Award, AAKPE, 1989; Gulick Medal, AAHPERD, 1990; Alliance Scholar-of-the-Year, AAHPERD, 1977). A past president of the American Academy for Kinesiology and Physical Education, he has also been recognized by the North American Society for Sport Management as "Honorary Past President." In 2008 the North American Society for Sport History awarded him its "Contributions to Sport History" award.

Professor Zeigler has been further recognized by election to Who's Who in Canada, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World. He has received three honorary doctorates (LL.D., 1975, University of Windsor, Canada, D.Sc. 1997, University of Lethbridge, Canada, and LL.D., 2006, The University of Western Ontario, Canada).
